Comparison of the Quick Gap and TRAK-Gap Analysis Calculators

The Quick Gap calculator (previously known as the "Pension Calculator") has long been one of the most popular calculators included with TRAK. New this year (2007) is TRAK-Gap Analysis calculator, which is available in both a stand-alone version and also as an option in TRAK, with additional functionality.

So why create a brand new calculator? For several reasons.

  • First, in response to the numerous features requested for the Quick Gap calculator that just could not be fit in the format that the Quick Gap utilizes. Included in these are items are Long Term Care illustrations, various tiers of income during retirement, etc.

  • Second, the need to calculate the federal retirement plans (FERS & CSRS). The data for these plans is simply too complex to be entered in the layout of the Quick Gap data screens.

Layout

The Quick Gap calculator uses the instant-calculation design found in many of the TRAK calculators: data on the left, calculations on the right:

The TRAK-Gap Analysis calculator data input is designed with tab-pages allowing for additional information and data-input screens are clearly categorized:

While the design is different, those familiar with the Quick-Gap calculator should quickly become comfortable with using the Gap Calculator. Also note that both calculators use the same database meaning if a Quick-Gap calculation has been made, the client data will already be available in the Gap Calculator.
